Top Shelf - Our Programs

Our families are top shelf! We continue to grow, defeating hunger by feeding more and more households in the unincorporated areas in and surrounding San Lorenzo, CA.

In-Store Program

Since the start of 2025, we’ve steadily increased the numbers of families we served each month (from January to March is a 9.5% growth over the year).

We added 87 new clients in March.

Middle Shelf - Volunteer Highlight

This month we shine a light on our SLFHC Hayward Advisory Committee. All of the advisory committee members live in Hayward, volunteer their time on a quarterly basis, and provide valuable insights to our Board of Directors. This committee was created in 2024 and is composed of Hayward residents whose singular purpose is to ensure that we are addressing and meeting the food-related needs of Hayward residents.

Our current Hayward Advisory Committee includes: Milinda Mayfield – Committee Chair, Janet Linh, Maria De Los Angeles Campos, and Val Watts. We appreciate the time and work this committee has done to grow the programs that service the Hayward community.

If you are a Hayward resident and would like to provide topics for this committee to discuss, please mail your comments to:

Stocking Our Shelves

In March, we received a $3000 grant from the Hayward Rotary Club Community Grants Committee. More than 60 nonprofits were invited to apply for the grants this year. With money largely raised through the club’s work at concession booths during the 2024 Rowell Ranch Rodeo, the Rotary was able to give out a total of $51,000 to local nonprofits and schools. For over 100 year, the Hayward Rotary Club has supported the Hayward community through their work.

We are grateful for the rotary club’s fiancial support which helps us #defeathunger in Alameda County.

Turn the Page, Fill a Plate Fundraiser

We are grateful to the community members for their participation and donations of approximately $2,000. The generous financial donations from our Turn the Page, Fill a Plate fundraiser go directly to feeding clients of the San Lorenzo Family Help Center.

All the food shared during the open house, was provided by our amazing food recovery partners. Enjoy the photo is gallery of photos from our open house on March 15, 2025.

Donating Proceeds & Food to The Pantry

There are many ways to support the work we do at the San Lorenzo Family Help Center (SLFHC). In addition to one-time or monthly donations please consider:

  • Hosting a fundraiser on our behalf – create an event and invite friends and neighbors, then donate the funds to SLFHC.
  • Use your company giving platform and matching program – look to see if the San Lorenzo Family Help Center is in your company non-profit donation platform. If we are not, then ask if they can add us. And spread the word.
  • Leave a legacy and add us to your estate plan – When you include the San Lorenzo Family Help Center in your estate plan, your generosity ensures an impact well into the future.
